I cant rate this book and 4 cds highly enough. It is pricey but then you get what you pay for. This reminds me of the well tempered clavier of Bach. That's a series of fugues (licks) for the serious music student...well this is too and they all sound sweet played slower or fast. This is the book I'm studying for hours at a time and am seeing my playing being transformed into proper order jazz language! What Shakespeare is for the English student-what Bach's Clavier is for the piano...this is for the Jazz saxophonist. With the 4 CDs for 2 tempos and Alto and tenor...there is material here for years of growth.
A superb book, the only book you will need to sound better, by practising the licks - and there are many - learn how to,develop your own but seeing how the licks are put together and most importantly 'listen' to what you play.
This book can transform your jazz playing. Learning these licks and dropping them in to your solos makes a big difference. There's one reviewer here that says make your own licks up, well creating great licks is easier said than done and unless your quite advanced they won't be as good as these. It's simple to embellish the licks in any case and/or link them together. I've bought quite a few books on jazz over the years, this is the best and most useful in terms of moving you on from just knowing your scales/chords to sounding like a real jazzer. Can't recommend it highly enough.
