Julie Leoni provides a well crafted and inspiring journey through the tenets of self actualisation and contentment. She provides a very personal and affable read that draws one into the key themes of self assessment and how to make vital changes in one's life. She is well informed in her studies and has a natural coaching mantle which provides a comforting and educated path. Should anyone feel the need to take stock of their lives, this book is a valuable tool to find the methods to improve. I look forward to reading more of her work.
I read Love Being Me over the course of a week as my recent bedtime reading. It's a beautiful read - touchingly and honestly written, from the heart and full of wisdom. Julie's story is shared in a way that makes you feel good about yourself; I defy people to not to find something they can empathise with and recognise in themselves. She takes familiar but maybe 'fuzzily understood' psychological concepts and explains them in ways that make sense by relating them to her own experiences. This allows the reader to make those connections too. What comes across very strongly to me is a sense of joy - however tough life is, there is always a deeper and more fulfilling layer, and that we have everything we need inside us to find that layer in our own lives. I'd heartily recommend Julie's book - it'll leave you with a smile on your face, feeling somehow more nourished, nurtured and connected to your life. A joy :)
"Love being me" is an honest, insightful, intelligent and humorously written exploration into the heart of what makes us uniquely human. It is an upbeat and thought provoking account of one person's journey towards happiness- peppered with psychological theory and useful "Try it yourself" activities. It's easy to read, and I finished it off feeling that I too had become a richer person for taking time to think about myself and my own identity.
As a male reader, I read this book despite the introduction saying it was written for women. I'm glad I did. Although it is true, inevitably, that the examples Julie Leoni gives are from her own female perspective, the overall experience is easily translated across the gender divide.Chapter 10 which deals with grief resonated with my own experiences in a powerful way.
This book is unique amongst other 'self help' style books I have read because it gives real and in depth examples from the author's own life. It is half biography and half self help. That makes it more open and honest than other comparable books. It is quite emphatically not just for women.
Beautiful book inside and out. I found the warm conversational style of Julie's writing really engaging and supporting as I read and worked through the chapters. Something I really took away from Love Being Me and practice everyday is writing down 'what went well'. Rarely do we take the time to notice all the little things we do each day, which can be something pretty mundane like loading the washing machine to taking time out for something for ourselves like a facial or even just putting moisturiser on our legs! I recommend this book if you are seeking to transform your life in anyway whilst appreciating the positives surrounding you at this moment. Another thing; the font size is great, very clear and lovely 'glossy' feeling pages :)
Julie takes us on an beautiful journey through her own life and her most poignant self-learning about life, love, the universe and more. She constantly challenges us as the reader (always with such care and gentleness), by regularly setting questions to challenge ourselves and our current way of thinking around all the usual, often unhelpful ways, in which we think and approach life these days. There are exercises too within the text, always perfectly poised to invite you to practice the revelations from the preceding few pages. You can always take them or leave them, as the exercises aren't onerous in any way and can easily fit into the spaces which any day provides (and which you might otherwise clog up with otherwise more usual negative thinking or pursuits), so they are easy - or as she puts it, 'easeful' - to introduce and incorporate in your own life. She reveals a simple (and astoundingly obvious when one thinks about it), positive, loving, connected and mindful way to approach life and its hurdles, that often left me wondering why I hadn't thought of it that way before myself. You can't help but think that if the whole world approached life, ourselves and each other in the way this book suggests, then the world would indeed be a much lovelier place for all.
"Love Being Me" has really helped change my whole outlook on life. Reading it is like chatting with a wise and caring friend who speaks from a place of experience, knowledge and compassion. If you are a busy, working mum (or dad!) who feels the whole "notgoodenough" vibe, who feels it is "selfish" or "not allowed" to do anything just for you, whose life is ruled by "shoulds" and "oughts" and who feels constantly on the verge of either collapsing with exhaustion or exploding with rage, you MUST read this book!! I'm recommending it personally to all my friends and now extend that recommendation to anyone viewing this page !
Julie Leoni shows us in her first book how to find that peace of heart that gets us through the difficult moments and periods in life. The way she utilizes her professional experience to analyse and resolve some of the traumas from her own past experiences is most impressive and hope-giving, while maintaining surprisingly easy and entertaining to read. Highly recommended reading for anyone wanting to break out of their pattern of mistakes/misfortunes.
