Excellent reference book for classic shotokan kata. Basic kata shown no real advanced kata in this book but what is show is excellent. The quality of paper used is not the best but cost reflects this. Images look slightly distorted but still good enough for you to use. Excellent karate ka used and some good bunkai. All in all 5/5

I don't like giving negative reviews but maybe you ought to think about what I don't say about this book. Not one for someone starting out on the way of [Shotokan] karate.

It has lots of B&W pictures of various kata: Bassai Dai & Sho, Jion, Jiin & Jitte, Hangetsu, Sochin, Wankan, Chinte, Unsu, Tekki 1, 2 & 3. The pictures are OK but I've seen better.

The book looks as if it were designed to be around A5 size & has been exploded & stretched to A4 format. Some of the pictures are soooo stretched & distorted that they have become 'chunky'. For that reason, if you eyesight is a little poor, then the text is "SUPERPB".

It's obvious that the author is sincere & passionate about karate & at 5th Dan I imagine he is very experienced. Perhaps he should have chosen a different publisher.

Pictures of intermediate moves in kate are shown which is always useful & there is quite an amount of useful, thought provoking & original bunkai. I look forward to volume two from Frank. Look out for Advanced Shotokan which is due out April 2010.

I am a 2nd Dan Black belt that has had the privelege to be involved in this book. I have known Frank personally for a very long time, and I have not met anyone more dedicated and devoted to Shotokan karate as Frank.

On an impartial note, I use this book as a very important tool in my Kata training, to enhance and develop my Kata.

This book is a product of many years of hard work and training that the author has personally undertaken. The book is a very practical and informative collection of Shotokan Kata that the author has mastered over many years of hard dedication to the art. As his brother I can recall many many hours training together all throughout our childhood into adulthood. Frank has dedicated his life to training and teaching and as such his devotion to the art is crystal clear should you decide to pick up this book!!!!
The book covers advanced techniques and explains in detail so that anyone picking up the book will undoubtedly get a good grasp of the key principles. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Frank writes and performs with passion for his art! Training for 29 years and teaching in excess of 25 classes per week has led to this great manual. He campaigns for karate everywhere and his kata & Bunkai here is of the highest standard!

Well done!
