The excellent illustrations and the well written and thoroughly researched text make this the ideal book for anyone trying to identify antique lace bobbins and their makers. The book concentrates on the East Midland lace bobbins and their makers, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire are the central areas. If you had lace makers as ancestors and have any of their old bobbins this book makes fascinating reading.
Essential reading for ebayers who deal in bobbins.

Wonderful book for anyone interested in bobbin lace making, bobbins or even as an adjunct to the social history of the counties involved. It is lucky for us that the Springetts have researched and recorded as much about these bobbins and their makers as they have. This book provides an opportunity for we ordinary lacemakers to encounter such masterpieces of the bobbin makers art as those of the Haskins family - we would be very lucky to ever see such bobbins on anyone's pillow outside a museum.
