With an interesting foreword by Max Aguilera-Hellweg, M.D., this collection of historic medical photographs (all over 100 years old) is quite an eye opener. The patients who have been pictured in this book have suffered from all manner of maladies, from gunshot wounds to dibilitating diseases. Some patients have been operated on and cured and there are a few 'before' and 'after' shots. Soldiers wounded in battle proudly show off their scars (looking at some of them, it's amazing they survived at all) and children with bored and fed up expressions show off artificial limbs and, in one photo, even a shark bite.
Although the patients in these pictures are long gone, the photos they have left behind have been essential learning tools to doctors and students over the years. I think it's great that they have been remembered in a book such as this.
An extremely interesting book. It's amazing what can go wrong with the human body!! The reason I didn't give this book five stars was the fact that there wasn't much explaination of the diseases shown. Other than that an excellent book for those who like the weirder side of medicine!!
The book arrived before time packaged very well and in good condition .The book was very informative ,pictures clear and precise, not as many as i would have liked but overall a very interesting read for people who like myself are very curious.
