The fact I am re-reading this book as soon as I stopped reading it for the first time should be an indication of how wonderful and life-changing, and life-challenging, a book it is. It is so full of practical help and wisdom that one reading is not enough to take it all in: at least it was not for me who sadly forgets a great deal of what he reads at times.
Not only a book about prayer, but a book on prayer, and making prayer part of our lives. And more than that, calling us to a personal encounter and a personal relationship with God, a personal encounter and relationship in our own lives, for this is what we were created for. Archimandrite Sophrony, with the wisdom granted him, for which thanks be to God, urges and encourages us on to reach what we were created for: this encounter and union with God. This call to union is a truly majestic and awe-inspiring calling, and this is a fittingly majestic and inspiring book to help us change ourselves to reach this union. The appendices on the Jesus Prayer are a particular treasure also.
