Superb introduction to "The Work'.I would have bought this book first had i been aware of it.
(Gurdjeff and Ouspensky are hard work without a guide ).
I was so impressed by this that i went on to buy the Maurice Nicholl set of Psychological Commentary's , a serious financial commitment ( no regrets there) a move i would have been unlikely to have made without first reading Friedman.

For an absolute beginner, like me, a good read. The authors genuiness comes over with honest remarks when he also finds certain aspects challenging or testing.....definitely a good place to start. But one has to keep it up....become a lifelong student otherwise easy to forget and revert to old habits of thought

Gil Friedman bases this book on the Psychological commentaries on the Teaching of Gurdjieff and Ouspesky and gives a relatively good interpretation of those 5 volumes. I have now read it twice.

Great primer on the Work. Key elements and principles captured clearly and explained with examples. I found it useful as the books written and lectures given by G himself have a tendency to take a long-winded path to get to a point.

Simple, clear, a good way to start to understand Gurdjieff teachings without confusing clutter. Friendly format, the author does connect well.

I was unsure at the outset of this book but it is an excellent summary of the key concepts, which I found really helpful to get me started on the journey.

This book is a superb guide for both those new to Gurdjieff, to those who know a lot and for all in-between! Easy to read and easy to understand this book creates and fosters a 'zen' mind of not knowing....I found it helped me to get back into the work but with a new energy! All aspects of the work are covered.....well worth a look!

Sixty years ago i read my first Gurdjieff book and have been a follower ever since. He has been a strong and beneficial influence ever since and I cannot recommend his work strongly enough, especially to all young people.
