If you want a photographic historical record of the Battle of the Bulge then you must have this book. It's not cheap but then its size and quality justify the price. Wartime stills side by side with peacetime photographs of the same settings many years on show the contrast of war and peace. There's plenty of detailed narrative to cover the action and chronology of the battle. If you're planning to visit the Ardennes, this would be a great companion. You just need to do some weight training first to allow you to carry it around.
It's not just one of the best books on the battle I've bought, it's one of the best books I've ever acquired.

We all know the professionalism of the "After the Battle" edition series. Jean-Paul Pallud's reputation is well asserted too. Yes, the very man that found M. Wittman's remains in the 80s.
As of today the book is one of the best account on that famous battle. Though I would have preferred, title wise, Battle of the Ardennes over "the Bulge" which really doesn't ring a bell except in the mind of the geography- wanting Americans ... (no harm meant).
The quality of the photos are outstanding, the choice excellent, captions always accurate and factual. There are no shortcuts or cheatings, I mean no pictures taken on the eastern front have been inserted here and there just to beef up the photographic record.
The book's a must.

this is a work of incredible precision and dedication, having visited the area many times i was totally amazed by the hours of hard work to put this book together.local knowledge being a major factor in many case,s.an outstanding read and a definite must read to anybody interested in this theatre of war.saskatoon.
This is not a recent book, but remains a vital one. It is absolutely crammed with what I regard the best photos on the Ardennes offensive from the German side and some useful US stuff too. I wish as much emphasis was given to the US fils on US forces as there is to the captured US footage of German troops! There are good human interest stiories and eye witness reports well linked to the photos and maps. After the Battle really know how to produce these things. It is also great value for money in comparison a) to other books b) the amount of photos c) the excellent authorative (although now slightly dated and slightly challenged) narrative.
