Excellent insight into real world infantry tactics. Multi-choice threads to follow through the book. E.g. a scenario is presented and you as the platoon commander have to make a choice between a number of options. Depending on your choice you then leap forward to a page elsewhere in the book to find out what the results of your command decision has been. You end up with being killed / failing your mission objective or else living on to make futher decisions. Won't turn you into a successful platoon commander (unless you are also doing a course at Westpoint) but gives you some insight into tactics underlying war between two conventionally armed forces. Isn't "Gung Ho" or "America is the Best". The author is also a military adviser to computer game developers.
I own all 3 books in the series but this is my favourite. I have served in the military for 12 years up to the rank of Captain and can confirm that the book is realistic. Sometimes you die a bit too soon, but this is what war is about, no kidding. Still, sound judgment could lead to victory on the 1st or 2nd try.
