this book is two equal parts: von franz and hillman
von franz is really awesome in her essay on the inferior function, at some points surpassing even jung in her explication and analysis of the functions, while almost all of her narrative is much clearer than jung's. only a surprisingly few of her ideas do not hold up, which is amazing when you consider that these notes are 40+ years old. interestingly, she also identifies as an N-dominant whereas jung identified himself as a T-dominant.
hillman, on the other hand, is mostly full of platitutes, muddled thinking, generalities and much of what he says about feeling has actually turned out to be wrong (e.g. he says that it is no psychological law that more women are F-types, when all evidence has confirmed this)
