Why no English into Glaswegian?
on 15 June 2015
Great as far as it goes but why does nobody ever produce an English into Glaswegian dictionary? Of course I know the answer: It's for the same reason that the first Gaelic dictionary (Dwelly's) showed only Gaelic into English, and the first "standard" Scots dictionaries were only into English, not the other way round. The assumption was that people would only want to read the literature or understand the speech of this "dying" language; that nobody would ever want to use it to write or say new stuff.
