Is there a simple solution to arthritis? Maybe
27 April 2014
I am now trying out Margaret Hills' theory on how to cure arthritis - so I am two weeks into drinking six teaspoons a day of cider vinegar as a way of counteracting the excess of uric acid which, according to her theory, I have built up. Her theory seems coherent - that we are what we eat; and that cider vinegar can dissolve the deposits of acid which built up on arthritic bones. But I need to wait six weeks at least, from hints in her book, , before I can probably expect results - and it could take much longer. I asked the view of a doctor (with general all round knowledge) and he could not see why the treatment would work but, on the other hand, he said that it might be worth trying as cider vinegar will not be harmful in these quantities. It has to be said that the medical and pharmaceutical sectors have not come up with a sustainable solution. And Margaret Hills - hospitalised at 21 with hideous arthritis - cured herself and the clinic she set up has been going for over three decades. Even if the cure does not work, Margaret Hills says a lot that is useful about the drawbacks of pharmaceuticals and about eating well.
UPDATE: After 6 weeks of taking about 35ml of cider vinegar a day: My arthritic right hip has been better now for about 5 days. In the last 5 days I was suddenly able to run - building up from 100 metres to 500 today. I stopped being able to do my usual minimum of 3k three months back - for no obvious reason. But the hip was too painful to run with. (I am an experienced runner, have done 3 marathons and am used to running each day.) Also, an other indication of a change is that I do an exercise which involves my hip which is much smoother than it was 6 weeks ago. Having said this, I am also doing other exercises which strengthen the hip and keep it flexible so that must be contributing to the recovery. I'll do another update after another 6 weeks.
UPDATE: After 12 weeks. I don't really feel that I have improved that much in the last six weeks. I will keep an eye on it and report back if it changes in future.
