Phil Moore has obviously studied not only the Bible but also other documents and literature from Biblical times. He has a very good understanding of what the church in Corinth would have been like and uses that to encourage the reader to persevere in their own faith. It is a challenging book but just occasionally I have issues with some of the things he says. It would be good to read other commentaries in addition to this one.
I find Phil Moore's " Straight to the Heart " series very helpful books to have to read side by side with the Bible . These aren't verse by verse commentaries, but give what the author calls " bite sized" chapters giving an overview of, in this case, the letters to the Corinthians. The books in the series inform, challenge & teach the reader . I recommend the series
These books really do open up the scriptures as well as giving one a desire to go through all of the books. Would thoroughly recommend these books to anyone wanting to delve deeper into the word. So easy to read as well.
Really good & insightful commentary. Perfect companion as a daily Bible reading guide with a bit of 'meat'. It is clear PhilM has a good theological background & the occasional reference to Greek words are helpful.
