An outstanding book. Well structured. Thoughtfully compiled and thorough. I recommend it to all of my (doctoral) students and I really wish it had been written when I was at that career stage. Something like 25 percent of all grant applications are successful. The odds, therefore, are stacked against any grant application (purely on a statistical basis). I worked at 3 UK universities and one European one but never received the training this book offers. There is a big gap between finishing a PhD and "making it" as a successful researcher, particularly in the areas of learning to write scientific papers really well and attracting funding. This is a brilliant and comprehensive guide to getting funding and, as such, it is an extremely welcome addition to my shelf.
