A first class book for anyone interested in motor racing during the imediate post war period. A story of small underfunded british teams pitting their technical wits against the large well organised German and Italian teams. All told by a Polish mechanic who understandably was not the biggest fan of the Germans.

The combination of first hand stories about HWM and other cars, and the mechanics who kept them going and put the British flag on motor racing across Europe immediately after the war are the real heros. Race tracks long gone are described in some detail, with stories of the amateur 'hand-to-mouth' existance without the excessive sponsorship of today's F1. Motor racing was a sport - not a business!

This was a present for my husband who liked this very much a really good read so much so that he read it twice, and will revisit many times more he has spoken to many mechanics over the years and said this is how it really was for many with long hours and problems along the way the good mechanics made the difference between the win and the second place

This was bought as a Christmas present and it was a great success. My father in law was greatly enthusing about it which is great as I don't know anything about racing and only bought it based on the good reviews on Amazon. Thanks go to the people who took the time to write them!
