Unknown Bown. Is really a very beautiful book of photographs that Jane took in the 50s and 60s. All the photographs are superb. My favorites Southend-on-Sea 1954,Deck chair girl 1960,Crufts Dog Show 1960,Woman on Bus,1954.This book is a very nice addition to Janes The Gentle Eye 1980. And Faces.

A thoughtful book of black and white photographs which capture the British population at work and play. These casual moments captured in beautiful monochrome with a candid and insightful interview with Jane Bown makes for a delicious insight into her approach to her 'non-work'. Jane Bown is usually associated with the formal portraiture images, as the interview reveals, this book is filled with the world Jane captures out of her own personal interests.
I love the fact that the plates are not competing with text which is kept to the start and end of the book - page after page of photos is hard to put down.
