Just sumptuously beautiful and interesting text. I absolutely adored it. The Barbados part is less interesting than the interwar and immediate postwar periods in London, but the whole thing was wonderful. As his art was quite fragile, and designed to be ephemeral, presenting its history is all the more important. Few to-day not specialists would even know his name, and yet his influence is enormous. (Would to God we could go back to his style of designing opera sets, the Met needs Oliver Messel desperately!)

At long last, an authoritative book on the work of Oliver Messel has been published! This book shows many examples of his work, a cracking read and a must for any students studying theatre and interior design.

Thomas Messel has created a 'must buy' for anybody seriously interested in theatre, film and interior design. It is a wonderfully unique insight into the creativity of his late uncle, Oliver Messel. Written with an obvious passion for the subject. This has been my best buy of the year.Highly recommended.
