I won't write a synopsis because the one given above is adequate. I'm not sure whether this is a first book for Kalen Hughes, but I found it very enjoyable.
Georgina and Ivo are likable central characters and there are several likable and amusing secondary characters who may find themselves as central characters in another Hughes book if we're lucky.
Ivo fought a dual on George's behalf when she was newly married and in Paris. As he actually killed the man in question his family feel that he disgraced their name, so he stayed for six years in Italy before returning to England.
George is now 26 years old and a widow. She is a flamboyant 'tomboy' figure, having more close male friends than females and is considered titilatingly scandalous by the ton. Her house is open house to her friends who are there at all hours day and night and come and go as they please. Consequently the ton think that she has numerous lovers. She is an excellant and fearless rider and shot. Her close, childhood friends Gabriel and St Aubrey, are extremely loyal to her and protective of her. A fact that makes Ivo very jealous.
Ivo is madly attracted to George and she to him, however, he doesn't really understand her. He is both attracted and scandalised by her "rackety" behaviour and fierce independence of spirit yet determined to make her his and change her behaviour when he does. To make her his he has first to get through her "bulldogs" as he calls Gabriel and St Aubrey, plus her other friends.
Then there is the fact that someone, for some reason, seems to want George dead. Various incidents happen, which makes it imperiative that both Ivo and her friends find out who is trying to kill her.
