Marvel are up to their usual excellent standard of omnibuses with this one, sewn binding - as opposed to DC's glue the pages in and hope for the best approach - and heavy glossy paper stock. The stories are set out in chronological order (as opposed to release order) Dead Days coming first and Marvel Zombies Supreme last. Initially introduced in Ultimate FF they where "fleshed" out by Walking Dead writer Robert Kirkman in mini-series to great effect. Yes, there are some omissions, vs Army of Darkness for instance but that's understandable I suppose, due to copyright reasons and although not strictly a Marvel Zombies book the Christmas Carol mini-series is missing too. However, containing all the covers and related covers - Zombie variants and the Deadpool Suydam covers, even including the 70's Tales of the Zombie magazine ones - more than makes up for this. Admittedly the stories themselves do follow the law of diminishing returns, as different writers and artists have a crack at was once fresh and innovative, but the continuation of the characters and situations all laid out in one volume makes the continuity easier to follow. Yes, it's not as shocking as it once was, in respect of seeing marvel characters eating everybody in sight and behaving against type, but this omnibus...sorry Zomnibus is well worth a read and... maybe a bit early, but an ideal x-mas gift for the marvelite or general Zombie fan in your life. All in all, a well put together collection featuring 1200 pages of zombie crunchiness.
Bought this for my man as he's a total comic and graphic novel collector, but wanted the zomnibus for ages, just couldn't find a decent enough price! So I bought it on here and by chance paid a very good price! It was totally worth the wait! So far so good I've enjoyed reading some of it before he's had a chance to lol. Would thoroughly recommend to anybody!!! Such a brilliant twist to the marvel universe!
Fantastic comics, I'm a huge Zombie fan as well as a Marvel fan. I've read these awhile ago online, and have been trying to get hold of them for awhile! I found this awesome Zomnibus for cheaper than other places and just had to grab it. For anyone that has wanted to get into this series, grab it! It's well worth your money.
Most of the good ideas are used up in the first series then it becomes more of a cosmic story rather than a zombie one. Still the story flows rather nicely, from the origins of the virus that turned all the heroes to zombies, to the crossover with the zombie Fantastic Four, to the story of the group of original zombies to their journeys across the universe in search of more and more food to eat. This book is a lot of fun. With awesome stories from Robert Kirkman, Mark Millar, and Fred Van Lente. Some like the FF are awesome but the Marvel Apes are boring and stupid. The artwork is fantastic, a bit gory and not for children. This is definitely a book to consider picking up.
The book is big and I thought I would never be able to finish it. But that was before I started. It was very exciting and it took me a surprisingly short time to read. Build quality was good. The first stories are with the most known Marvel heroes. Then comes the more obscure. And lastly Howard the duck (!). Plenty of dark humour. Could have been concluded better.
