The stories running through the Amazing Spider-Man issues #617-621 are collected, along with stories from Web of Spider-Man #3 & #4, as Spider-Man: The Gauntlet Book 2 - Rhino & Mysterio TPB. This time, the Rhino and Mysterio are the featured villains. We get a new Rhino (courtesy of the Kravens) who comes looking for the old (and reformed) Rhino to prove himself, but the old Rhino isn't interested, so Spider-Man has to stand in for him. We also get the origin of the old Rhino, as well as the origin of the reformed Rhino. Oh, and Peter Parker gets a full-time job at the Front line as Nora's photo-monkey. We then get the origin of Mysterio, guest-starring Doctor Strange, followed by Mysterio's current scheme to steal all the mob money by engineering a big showdown between the apparently not really dead mob leaders whose many deaths Mysterio faked, and Mr Negative. One of the deaths he faked was Carlie's father, who also returns for his share of the loot and to take his daughter away to spend same. Silvermane also returns from the dead, but he may just be Mysterio's puppet. Aunt May happens to stumble into one of Mr Negative's briefing sessions, and gets zapped by his negative power, turning her to the Dark Side... The final story has the Black Cat and Spider-Man stealing back the vial of Spidey's blood from Mr Negative.

These are exceptionally well-told stories, with very good artwork. The Rhino's story is outstanding (though reminiscent of Frank Miller's Gladiator from his time on Daredevil). This particular period of Spider-Man stories is definitely back to its usual high standard.
