Difficult though, with technology developing all the time. Not easy to digest all of the concepts via mere words alone, or the differences between different products on the market

PCRS4D was published in 2005 and is now completely out of date. I am a fledging computer music composer, and if you are too, you will find the book of next to no use. And,as if that wasn't enough, author Jeff Strong's style is much drier than the usual "For Dummies" fare-PCRS4 is a very dull read. Not recommended!!

Yes this book was published in 2005 but that is clear from the product details even before you buy it. Books on this subject and at this price are very few and far between. I set up a computer studio in the Summer of 2008. Before reading this book I knew literally nothing about what was involved or how to go about it. This was one of the most helpful books I read. I found it easy to understand and the material is presented well and in a logical order. I didn't find it dull. I bought this book for the information it would provide, not to be entertained. Some of the hardware available today has moved on. Processors are quicker, Mac G computers have been replaced by Mac Pro computers and the recording software has been through a few version upgrades. However, the core concepts relating to what you need to know when setting up a home studio remain pretty much the same and this book is still very helpful in these areas. Where the book is out of date it won't take you much to do further research on the net to bring you up to date. This book is not a fully up to date reference guide but it will give you a very firm foundation for understanding what's involved in setting up a PC studio and then you can build on that knowledge with further research, as I did. We are not talking about a book that will set you back £30.00 or £40.00. It's about £10.00 and the information I got from it would certainly justify that price.
