When I first purchased this book I was just beginning to learn the basics of Dreamweaver MX. The great thing about this book is that it teaches you how to learn Dreamweaver MX AND Web Design at the same time.
The book is divided up into logical sections that introduce the main elements of Dreamweaver MX. The brilliant thing is that the authors have a running commentary on all of the steps and new theory that is introduced. As a result I learnt Dreamweaver MX and the theory behind effective web design too.
The book illustrates the construction of 3 increasingly complex websites moving from the very basic to a database website. There are many 'How it Works' sections where the authors describe the thinking behind the steps that they introduce. It's like having a conversation with expert web designers.
Great. Thank you Wrox. This book rocks :-)

This is the best 'how to' book I've ever come across. The writing style is simple and very effective. The authors know what they are on about and it's a very easy book to navigate. It is a book for beginners, but you can easily skip to the sections you are interested in. A good book to have on your shelf if you are a Dreamweaver MX developer, either new or experienced.

Completed other how-to books and been left with nothing at the end of it except scattered knowledge of waht you were meant to learn. Not with this book!
After constructing three web sites, fully functional and not afraid to introduce complex ideas, you reatin alot of knowledge because active learning for most people is the best way to learn.
Clear step by step instructions, followed by 'what you have just done' explanation, so you can merrily skip though our gain in-depth knowledge of Dreaweaver, Another advantage is this book introduces ASP, easily.
I learnt without knowing! And now have three websites, a home web server and a good knowledge of Dreamweaver MX, ASP and modular websites.
Excellent book, would recommend to beginner or intermediate user. excellent reference manual too, once compelted.

A great format for taking you through the steps of Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX software. For both beginner and intermediate level.
But beware that the book is useless if you can't download from Wrox's website the images needed to work through the book.
PC users are in heaven but Mac users could be in for a rough ride.
All in all though an excellent structure. Enjoy.

I'm not sure why AD McGrath thinks this book would be a rough ride for Mac users. I'm using a Mac, and apart from the fact that you'll be using your webspace (I'm using the free space from my web provider), rather than your own machine as the server, there's no difference. The book explains what to do if you're using a Mac, so it's no problem. I'm a complete web novice, and am thoroughly enjoying working my way through the book - it's extremely well written, and explains what you've been doing in code and design at every step.
Yes, you do need to download the associated images from the website (and it's worth noting the half dozen corrections to the book while you're there), but if you haven't got an internet connection to do that, how are you doing to learn web design?!
An excellent book, and throroughly recommended.

I went on a four day course which really taught you thebasics of Dreamweaver. when it came to creating my first website from scratch in the real world i needed a bit more help. I purchased this book and read it from front to back following a ll the sample sites and lessons as i went along. The book gave me all the necessary information and help i needed to create an excellent website.

I have created many more websites since while always flicking back at the book for reference and help.

For anyone thinking of using Dreamweaver this is a must.
