As a textile teacher, I often browse the books on amazon for visual inspiration to help with designing. Often, books of this nature are returned, as they are usually sparse in clear photographs, and are based on a written account of the area's textile history and design.
This book is different! - it is packed full - from cover to cover - with wonderfully clear & colourful images of a range of decorated and embroidered textiles, all with garment / product photographs, and a series of close-ups showing each stitch and detail of work.
It is a fantastic resource for those looking for solid inspiration when designing, giving visual details of pattern and texture, with lovely colour!!! For me, this book will be used for pattern and artwork in design.
No details about history or the textiles' relation to the area illustrated - this is simply a feast of a visual resource to inspire!!
This is a truly sumptuous pictorial guide of the tribal embroideries from the Gujurat Province in India. Explore the colour and stitches, the form and design of these wonderful treasures from the 1900's to the 1970's. There is little in the way of text but the images speak for themselves. This is a fantastic resource book full of inspiration. I really love this book. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.
