Though expensive, this volume gives the reader a superb insight into the bewildering array of uniforms worn in Nazi Germany. Exquisite colour plates reveal fascinating details of the high quality uniforms worn in all quarters of the Reich - the Army, Kriegsmarine (Navy) and Luftwaffe are covered in some detail and other branches also receive more limited coverage, for example, the SS and diplomatic corps. The beautiful quality plates even feature the Fuhrer's brownshirt uniform "liberated" from his Munich apartment in 1945 by an American GI! The photographs in this book are detailed and of very high quality and will prove useful to collectors trying to establish genuine items in the swelling sea of forgeries. The plates are far superior to those that appear in another (equally expensive) book from this stable ("SS uniforms, Insignia & Accoutrements") and, though it could never be an impulse buy, it will surely grace the bookshelf of any serious student of Third Reich militaria.

As the decades pass by since World War Two it has become increasingly difficult for students of this era to gain access to genuine photographic information detailing arguably the best designed and impressive uniforms of the century. This book beautifully depicts in outstanding colour the uniforms of the German armed forces during the period of the Third Reich. With genuine examples in good to excellent condition being scarce and of great value to the collector, it is little wonder that the market contains many "copies" purporting to be genuine! This book can help to identify the forgery and the fraud.

Depicted amongst others in fine detail are the manufacturer's markings and tailor tags, shoulder and collar rank insignia and cuff titles, the quality of these uniforms particularly in the early years of WW2 being the envy of other army's the world over. Examples of head dress and buttons and other ceremonial duty equipment are also detailed in full colour. Front and rear photos of the Army, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Waffen-SS, Allgemeine-SS, Police, Hitler Youth and Political Leaders uniforms are shown in large detailed shots.

Although quite expensive, in short this book is a "must have" item for any serious student interested in this historical age. My only criticism of this book would be that it contains predominantly officer's uniforms and little on NCO's and other ranks combat uniforms. Perhaps this will be included in a future edition.
