This is a great book for beginner knitters or those who do not have a knitting reference book. It starts with a few pages on the history of knitting followed by knitting basics. This starts with casting on, knit and purl stitch but then goes on to a detailed two page spread on mattress stitch with clear decent sized photographs. It also covers beading, joining in a new yarn, unravelling your work and all forms of colourwork. Every page had detailed photographs on which show you how to do the methods step by step. It also includes fifty patterns which as it says on the front are fun and fast. The patterns are divided into baby knits, kid knits, her knits, his knits and home knits. Baby projects are bonnet & bootees in denim, a shawl in calmer, modern 4 piece set, bolster cushion, cardi and bootees, crib blanket, beret and bootee set. Kids knits are mainly scarves and hats with 2 bag and a poncho pattern. Her knits is a good mixture of cardigan/jackets, sweaters, scarves and bags. His knits has three sweaters a vest top and scarf and hat. Home knits is two afghans and cushions. I am not that impressed with all the patterns but there are 9 I really like and will definitely knit and the detailed photos in the how to section make this book more than worth it's cost.
