Johnny Diaz has cornered the market on the Cuban-American take on gay life in Boiston and Miami. This is the first of what are now three novels on the theme. In the third, I felt that the formula was wearing a bit thin but this, the first, is charming and insightful with varied characters, genuine conflicts of personality and some acute insights into human relationships. Tommy is, too, a cute character. If you read this one, you will want to read the others, but they do slope gently downhill from here on in.
