Heroes are sometimes like dreams, best kept in the windows of your mind. A talented, tortured man, seemingly never satisfied in spite of all his success and wealth. The drug aspect especially sad. I still admire his acheivements but having read the book wonder if it really was all his own effort. It's a good read, warts and all.

An excellent read that I couldn't put down, and still dip back into - real triumph to tragedy stuff and well researched by Matt Rendell. Recommended for anyone intrigued by the enigma of Marco, or simply wishing to understand the darker past of the cycle racing.

Pantani may have not been a person without his faults but he was icon. The book help you understand all the pressures that he found himself under. It at least goes somewhere to helping understand what happened.

Loved this book, fantasticly sad story but a character like no other. A must read for anyone interested in the darker side of cycling and of sport generally.

Reading this book in the current climate is very interesting. Matt Rendell pulls no punches and presents a good analytical case study. We'll worth a read.

A genuine tragedy of modern times. Rendell superbly accounts for the rapid rise and fall of one of the most exciting cyclists of the recent era.

Ever wondered where it all went wrong for Marco? This well written book details his slide into drug abuse and cheating. Not for the faint hearted.

A remarkably sad, elegiac volume- and undoubtedly the most rigorously-researched sports book I've ever come across. Superb. Kudos to the author.

Thorough research, competent writer, excellent engaging writing, exciting but tragic life. Would recommend it to anyone, not just cycling fans

Excellent book. A little wordy and verbose at times but keep reading and it really pays off. Very sad story but gripping at the same time.
