Lewis writes a persuasive and detailed account of the rise of anti-Semitism in the Arab world. He credits its emergence to European influences, charts the collaboration between Arab nationalism and Nazism and the disturbing proliferation of anti-Semitic tracts following 1948. This is a well-written, powerful book which must be read in order to understand why the Middle East conflict has gone on so long.

Professor Lewis is absolutely amazing. He has insights about Jews and Arabs and Muslims of all kinds - and lots else - that unfortunately very few people interested in Israel-Palestina and anti-Semitism bother to learn about and learn from. The book isn't very hard to read and it's less than 300 pages - so people: What are you waiting for?

I just wish I could find something written by Professor Lewis since 2000. (The book - second edition - only covers through 1999).
