The 2000 edition is nowhere as good as the original, I bought the newer book as it is advertised as being updated and revised but much of the information is either missing or a condensed form of the original book which I also have, all the photographs are gone, the book is smaller and the paper quality is that of a cheap paperback, its still a good read but if you can track down a copy of the original I think you will be a lot happier.

Of course this book is full of reference to other work; It's an encyclopedia of over a thousand pages. You cannot seriously suggest that this book is worthless - Bill Harry can't be expected to just write a book like that without consulting sources, can he?
Anyway, this is a very useful, handy guide that collates everything you need to know about the Beatles and puts it all in one place. The entries are clear, lucid and informative. Highly recommended.

This is the most extensive book on the Beatles and their songs, I have ever seen. It includes details of venues, and dates the group appeared, it is filled with fascinating details. There are short biographies of people that were associated with The Fab four, throughout their musical lives. This really is a necessity for any Beatles Fan or Record Collector. I wouldn't sell mine for any price, it's that good."Beatles" Encyclopedia

I would echo the second reviewer's comments regarding this impressive tome. To simply write it off as a plagiaristic bore, which reviewer number one seems to do is doing it a major injustice. Bill Harry has compiled highly impressive work here, which is both fun to just dip into for the casual Beatles fan, to the more ardent collector. Even if he sources much of it from other work, this is frequently the case with books of this nature and I see nothing wrong with that at all. For instance I just discovered the 'Blackbird' birdsong came from a sound effects record. The book is full of stuff like this, so please ignore Mr/Miss grumpy and add this interesting book to your collection.

Bill Harry calls himself an expert but all he does is open up every available book and magazine about the band and plunder them. What's more, he introduces errors while he's doing so. He undoubtedly has an impeccable pedigree -- such a pity, then, that he resorts to such tactics instead of doing original research.
