This is a superb little volume only 19 x 13cm but copiously illustrated with mainly colour photos throughout. The cover is very strong and sturdy and most of the salient information you need covering the QE2's career is included, with a useful bibliography, list of important QE2 dates and glossary of terms used. No index. Memorable colour photos include the original Queen Mary, and the three Queens together in New York harbour, 2008. If you really want every single detail concerning the QE2, prefer Carol Thatcher's book QE2: forty years famous (2007), but this little volume is half the size and price and a great value summary of the QE2's career.
This book has far greater depth than first appears. It is small, but perfectly formed! Lots of amazing photos which, despite having many QE2 books, I had not seen before. Its also packed full of facts and information, some of which I had either forgotten, or was not aware. The book is peppered with quotes and stories from people involved in the ship's long and wonderful story. The best way to describe this book is as if a full-sized in-depth "boring" maritime history book about QE2 had been condensed into a more pallatable form. The ideal present for either the QE2 geek in your life, or just someone with a passing interest - e.g. someone with happy memories of times spent aboard.
I am happy to highly recommend this wee book. - Rob Lightbody
This is a superb book. It tells the story about the qualities that made Queen Elizabeth 2 the most famous 40+ year old ocean-going liner in the world. It's small, neat, thoroughly well researched, packed, and yet uncrowded, containing great pictures, history and hundreds of facts - all of which give a comprehensive picture of QE2's life as a Cunarder. Contributions to the book have been provided by people who, like the authors, have both loved and worked on, with, and for QE2. Throughout the book you will find details that ably demonstrate the reasons for the deeply held affection for QE2. This has been unique, and shared generously as she travelled round the world. Exactly a year ago, Queen Elizabeth 2 was sold by Cunard; now she waits patiently in Dubai - hopefully she'll be in her element soon, at sea and at work. So, in a way, if you didn't manage to travel aboard QE2 - there might be a small consolation for you. This is the book that would be The next best thing. If you don't yet know anything about this important ship, then getting to know 'all about QE2' definitely starts here! If you were one of those fortunate enough to spend time on board - a copy of The QE2 Story will go a long way in providing the best reminder of those great days, days when QE2 took you to sea.
This is the perfect gift - one that you might well want to keep for yourself!
