Herbert Sutcliffe, son of a Cobbler and orphaned in infancy, was reared by an aunt.He passionately wished to
follow in his father's footsteps and become a cricketer. Not only did he achieve this, but he went on to play for
Yorkshire and England, opening the innings with the illustrious Sir Jack Hobbs.
Herbert was fastidious about appearance, and taught himself to speak correctly, thus being at ease with any
group of company he encountered.
As a batsman,he was admired wherever he played, and particularly in Australia where he made many friends
and a good few centuries.
In my view,a Tip Top Yorkshire man!

Very disappointing. No real analysis of Mr Sutcliffe. No exploration of his character. Constant blind praise for an obviously great batsman but nothing really about the cricketer as a man.
