The book charts military medical history, and in doing so gives the reader a valuble insight to what happens to your average soldier when he is wounded. It brings you closer to the soldier as a person and not as a number. As well as depicting the leaps in medical science through trial and error, it shows how mad and brave these surgeons, nurses and medics were, and their unwillingness to give up on their patients. A moving and intresting account of war, and a must for anyone intrested in the sanctity of life.
