I have studied this book throughout my last year of university and have found it to be an absolute joy to read. The whole book is well structured, detailed, and to the point. It includes all the major compression algorithms and also those for video, image, and audio compression. Each chapter introduces the compression algorithm then summarizes it, followed by many exercises and assessments making it very complete in its learning process. All in all, i would recommend this book to anyone and im so glad i purchased it myself! Couldn't have done without it.

This is a really good introduction to data compression which covers compression techniques such as Huffman coding, arithmetic coding, dictionary-based compression, audio compression, video compression and many more.
What’s really good about this book as well is that there are plenty of examples with step-by-step demonstrations and the algorithms are written in pseudocode to make it easier to understand.
After each chapter there are exercises and assessment type questions, along with a bibliography of related books and journals.
I am currently using this book whilst studying data compression at university and it has been a very handy book to have whilst studying the course.
I highly recommend you purchase this book!
