Comprehensive and detailed text book written by an expert who has a world class reputation in this topic.
My main criticism is that it has a slightly dated feel to it. There's plenty of theory and it would be a useful introduction to anyone wishing to explore this subject in detail

This book was recommended to us in the final year of MEng Electronic Engineering degree program. Before reading this book, I had no idea at all about the content of the book since the name of the book may not give a clear indication of its purpose.

However as I started to read it more and more, I realized the importance of quality in continuous development of the products and services in today's competitive environment.

Author nicely splits the fundamental ideas of TQM and covers them one by one in the book such as process, plan, people, performance, culture, commitment and communication. There are some really good and attractive diagrams in the book.

Another really good thing about the book is that at the end of each chapter, there are summary points which are summarizing the whole chapter on a few pages.

Case studies at the end give really good examples where TQM principles are applied.

However there are some places where the author is praising himself and his friends which I found to be a bit arrogant.

Overall; Interesting and Recommended Book to Read.

A very readable book full of real-life examples. Oakland provides a practical approach to business improvement that contains a lot more business sense that you might expect from a book titled 'Total Quality Management'. You won't find a single approach such as Six Sigma pushed at you here. The book gives a balanced view of imrovement under the core principles of Planning; People; Process & Performance. This book could also be categorised in the 'Deploy your Strategy' section.

Bought this book as part of studies for my masters degree in International Finance. Quality was great for a used book and price was superb.

The book gives much theory about quality, TQM, processes. There are many improvement models described. Not too helpful for practical use in process improvement, but great to understand quality topics.

This is a very useful textbook for any organization that cares about the quality of its products and services. Students or Chief Executives with bias in having Total Quality Management of services or products would surely benefit from keeping this book handy.
