This book is based on Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, that per se makes no difference! One could use the Kabat-Zinn CD with the same results. At the end of the day this is Buddhist meditation minus the religious implications. Where the book succeed is in organizing the approach to meditation in an 8 weeks program. For most people, having a program to follow is much more motivating and easier than self-taught meditation. I have to agree as I approached meditation several years ago and always struggled, I am now at my 4th week and find it much easier to stick to practice sessions. The CD-guided meditations are a great tool initially but I find them distracting and try to dispense with them after the third or fourth session. In addition to the book and CD, I would also suggest going to meditation group meetings. I find it a lot easier to meditate in a group than alone. As in results, I cannot really comment. I think meditation is a very personal experience. For now I can only say that I am kind of addicted and can't wait for my next session. Recommended!
This is a very significant book - it's clearly not for everyone and I know that 'Mindfulness' can sometimes get a bad press and is often dismissed as a bit of a fad, but I found this book really quite helpful when I was going through some difficult times. I would say, however, that it is probably better to read (and, where possible, act on) this book before you get to the point being in a bad place. It's more about prevention than cure
I am yet to finish the book but wow once you go a few pages in your just captivated by the knowledge in this book and how relatable the examples they give are . I bought this book as I was feeling quite down and overwhelmed when ever I get that anxiousness back I just read a couple of pages and it makes me realize that itse that's making things worse by beating myself up about how I feel . 10/10 highly recommend it to everyone and anyone
I already have the book of this (which comes with the mindfulness CD) but I wanted the CD of the book so I can listen to it when on the move (the the meditation bit!!!). It's great and I find it really easy to follow and it's the first time I've been able to meditate long term.
