We have looked at a lot of guides before going away and, whilst they are often quite similar, we like the AA Spiral Guides best. We have used the Tuscany, Italian Lakes and Paris guides and we find they have just enough information for us. It is presented in a form that is useful and easily accessible; for example 'Florence in 2 days', 'Southern Tuscany' in 2 days.
They are set out well, with maps and photographs, without being too cluttered. Particularly good is the split spiral binding, which makes the guide easy to handle and refer to on the move, as well as preventing the guide being wrecked if it gets bent in your bag.
Overall, it is hard to think of how this Spiral Guide, and the others we have used, could be improved.

Since you cannot flip through books when browsing online, you have to rely on the title and product description provided. It is very unfortunate that they are both misleading in the case of the "Tuscany - AA Spiral Guide". This book only mentions the tourist areas, such as Florence, Pisa and Sienna, and completely leaves out the entire coastal area south of Pisa, as well as the beautiful Elba island. I understand that books choose to focus on certain parts of a region but I find it's weak that a book entitled "Tuscany" doesnt even mention e.g. Elba or the cute towns in the West.
However, if youre looking for a colourful book of the main tourist attractions with only very few pages per place, then this is the book for you.

I would not recommend this guide to anyone. We chose it because of its spiral binding, but it is very basic and small and missed important information which made us miss some attractions, opening times, necessity to book. And by the way, if you are reading this and plan to visit Florence, BOOK EVERYTHING in advance. Otherwise, especially in the summer, you are facing cues that go on for 3 hours, frustration and stress. Book only by phone (don't trust the sites) on the official Florence tourist helpline.

We were in Central Tuscany for a week in August , staying in a villa near Lucignano.Travelled to Cartona, Siena sightneeing and Montalcino ,wine tasting .
Found the guide very useful when you are on a short trip . The brief introductions to each section and visitors hints ,like were to park and eat etc were very helpful. Maps at the end were good .I strongly recommend this to a first time visitor.
