Set in 1910, the story illustrates the awful home life and plight of three young sisters at the hands of the father after the death of their mum. He has total control over their very existence. The lengths they have to go to to escape his brutal parenting is brilliantly brought to life by the author Anna Jacobs. It made me more aware and appreciative of the comparative freedom and rights women have nowadays and mainly take for granted.
