This is an interesting series of essays with a common thread of argument against a basic skills view of literacy. Written at the time of the introduction of the National Literacy Strategy, some of the views now seem outdated. Nevertheless, this is worth reading for the persuasive and sometimes passionate quality of the arguments it includes.
