Just received this book and I have to say,I'm very impressed.I've been an Elvis fan for many years and I knew Paul Lichter had brought out some great books including The Boy Who Dared To Rock. The book covers in depth,Elvis first appearance in Vegas in '56,the Viva Las Vegas film and his wedding. Most of the book obviously centres on Elvis' Vegas appearances from 1969 to 1976.Each page has stunning pictures, quite a few of which I hadn't seen before and each picture has a caption, giving location and date of picture. As the book moves through the years, the major events in Elvis'career are also covered, even though they didn't take place in Vegas, such as his Madison Square Garden shows and Aloha From Hawaii. The back of the book also contains concert dates and set lists and also what celebrities were introduced from the stage, such as Neil Diamond.I recommend this book to all Elvis fans, especially at this price. These kind of books are very hard to find, especially at this price.Apparently, this book sold out very quickly in the U.S and is not officially released in the U.K until Spring 2012.

This beautiful book's description reads: 'If Elvis Presley had been a painter, his canvas would have been Las Vegas.'

Well if that was the case then by 1976 Elvis would have set fire to that painting.

The twice-yearly month-long appearances with mostly two shows a night from 1969 to 1976 that his manager contracted him to made him apathetic to the point of sickness and depression. Elvis didn't stay in Las Vegas because he wanted to, but because he was contracted to. The first few years were new and exciting but by 1974 the signs of Vegas-weariness were beginning to show on Elvis. Elvis thrived on challenges and Las Vegas no longer represented such. Far from it in fact!

Still, being the absolute professional that he was, he honoured his contracts and consistently gave his audiences his best. Going to Vegas in the '70's mostly meant going to see Elvis Presley live on stage. Elvis WAS Vegas back then and this is what this book is mainly about.

Paul Lichter is very well known for his knowledge and contributions on anything Elvis. And this work should rank as one of his great achievements. With a glorifying preface by Joe Tunzi - another brilliant authority on Elvis Presley - the book impressively tells Elvis' story in words as well as beautiful and many previously rare pictures, with plenty of detailed information and stories on his Vegas appearances and incidents. It is a great reference of this historical period when the King ruled Nevada's oasis.

It is no exaggeration to state that Elvis 'owned' Vegas from '69 to '76 and this book goes a long way towards confirming it. And for the £12.80 price paid, this 284 page hardback is a big and beautiful bargain.

Recommended.

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic. Elvis in Vegas is a brilliant factual read with great rare quality photo's taking you back to the days of the great man in concert.
After all the books that have been issued on Elvis it takes "something" special to make me sit up and take notice and at such a reasonable price. This book is a must have for anyone who calls themselves an Elvis Presley fan.
