This is a vast field. Plants have been used for many purposes, for as long as man exists. Many fanciful stories have been thought up in that time. The illustrations consist of good quality photographs of the plants, although I cannot help feeling these might be even better. The photographs are supported by brief texts that draw on a wide range of mythologies. An unavoidable consequence of this brevity is that all the topics are only lightly touched upon and this puts a burden on the author to summarize accurately. Glancing through this book I have my doubts if this is actually achieved. This book is ok, if one wants a book to browse through, but unsuited as a reference of any sort. I guess this is what is called a coffee-table book.
