This is an excellent book covering just about everything the average person needs to know about the Arctic. It is well written and can either be read section by section, or used as a reference work. The photography is excellent and covers most areas and aspects of the arctic. The section on exploration is particularly readable, and the encyclopaedic wildlife section is really useful. The only downside to the book is its large size and weight..its just not very portable!
