This book accompanies the TV programme. They both take as their starting point Sgt Pepper, and the fact that as it was 1987 when this book first came out, it was 'the twenty years ago today.' They explore the wonderful era that lead to, and was exemplified by Sgt Pepper. Derek Taylor focuses on the movers and shakers who were at the heart of the summer of love, such as Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, Peter Fonda, Barry Miles and many more who describe what was happening and what they felt, and feel, about it.

I was there then (in London), and for me he evokes the feelings and sensations of that magical time wonderfully.

He finishes by saying 'In Arcadian dreams in times to come there will be a belief that somehow things will turn out alright. More danced than dramatised those times will astonish the people no less than those through which we have lived in this book.' How true, how magical.
