TOP 500 REVIEWERon 11 January 2017
This is a novel aimed at young readers (aged 8 to 14), and viewed in those terms it's quite good - although rather short. For adult readers, especially those who enjoy the Star Wars Extended Universe saga, this book may be something of a let down. The story focuses on aspects of the life of Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader, touching on his rise to power as the Dark Lord and his ultimate death. Everything is discussed very briefly. On the whole, the plot elements are taken from existing stories - and there's very little new here.

I recommend this item to young readers who are fans of Darth Vader.

I thought this book would cover more of the twenty years of Vader's rise to power and exploits during the establishment of the 1st Galactic Empire, or fill out the vintage era a little more...but I was disappointed to find out that the bulk is a basic re-run of the events of the prequel trilogy, with light touches of the vintage trilogy tacked onto the end.

There are a few paragraphs that show promise, explain a few unknown facts and 1 chapter that relates how Anakin arrives on Tatooine, but no where near enough new material, thoughts and feelings of the Dark Lord are included to make it a truly valuable source book to fill in the caps that are a still a mystery.

A better book based on Vader would be "The Rise of Darth Vader" that continues directly where Revenge leaves off. A waisted opportunity to create a book that would give good incite into Vader's thought's feelings and true motives during the vintage era would have been better, and a bigger book to fit it all in!

My children (age 6 and 8) both loved this book and have read it several times. They are big Star Wars fans and so this was just the ticket for them.

Do not buy this book. All it does is replay scenes from the films with no back story or any original material. I am a huge fan of Star Wars and have loved everything I have picked up. I can only assume that this is something that managed to sneak it's way past George as if he'd read even the first couple of pages he'd have canned the project. Buy the Vault instead it is a much better purchase and give you real insight into the character.
