My daughter had to buy this book for her English Literature GCSE Exam and she told me it was very convenient. The pages that summarise the chapter helped her find the main points she needed to revise for her exams. They were also a useful way to go back and remember what happened without having to re-read the entire chapter.

There were questions at the end of the book that you could answer that helped her to understand the context, content, author and characters better.

My daughter tells me Of Mice and Men is a detailed and intricate story written in the 1930s by John Steinbeck. It tells the story of George and Lennie, two migrant ranch workers, sharing a dream of one day owning their own ranch and also their struggle of trying to survive due to lack of money. The book also includes the most important issues regarding society in America during the great depression which were my daughters GCSE topics for this novel such as racism, sexism, prejudice and the American Dream. It is a highly thought provoking story wherein the simplest of sentences has a profound deeper meaning.

Overall it’s a very good book with useful summarised pages and questions that make it easy to understand and use as a revision tool for GCSE English Literature. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who either is doing this for their GCSEs or has a teenager that is.

The story is very intriguing. Includes a summary of each section and this helps in the revision for an exam if you need to find a certain part of the book quickly. At the back of the book and in each section, it also contains questions that you can answer.

This version of the book is intended for those who are studying the story. You can still buy the book "just to read", as the notes are at the beginning of every chapter, however it would be a little confusing and irritating to have to skip through those parts. For that reason I would recommend buying this book if you intend to study it. Also at the back of the book is a Glossary, which is very useful for understanding of the story. I like the fact it is a hard-cover copy, which helps for a harsh school/college environment as it is fairly tough.

All in all perfect for studying the story and even helps you out a little with the study process. I would definitely recommend this edition of the book!

I didn't notice when i ordered this edition. It is German. It isn't obviously stated (other than on book cover which i missed)The story is in English but the historical support notes at the back are all in German. It is however a very useful pocket book edition. So wouldn't suit someone who has eye sight problems (small print)I can't sent it back i live in UAE

If family member is studying the text 'Of Mice and Men', then it helps to have a copy they can read at home. This is as good as any.
However, not a book I would read for pleasure. Too dystopic and Steinbeck was over-rated in the 1930s. He offered no solutions and characters are one dimensional. On the other hand, if they have to study it to please the Department of Education, then have a copy at home.

I read this book in High school, and recommended to hubby. This version was translated from German, which I wasn't aware of at the time of ordering, but still a good read. Nice notes at the bottom to help you understand the various words used. Tiny pocket sized book too, which is nice.

My son wanted this book for his school work, and the story is a very poignant one, concerning a friendship between a regular chap and a person with learning difficulties, and the problems the latter is involved with. Very gritty but compassionate, and quite a topic for a school curriculum, a good thought provoking book.

A great classic bought for my 13 year old son to keep him busy in the summer holidays. I wanted him to read something with a little more 'depth' than his usual choices and kept my fingers crossed that it would not just end up on the shelf. To my delight, not only did he thoroughly enjoy it, he read it in just two days! The characters and plot was discussed by the whole family for days after. This book was studied by his sister for her mock IGCSE's and now my son will have a good head start in September. I recommend this to any young teen and older as it is not a very difficult read as perhaps some novels written in this era.

This is the first time I have ever had an audio book and it is really lovely. The voice of the actor who tells the story is rich and wonderful and you can get totally involved in the story as he does different voices for the different characters.

Of Mice and Men is a true classic, and also on the GCSE reading list, but listening to this story is actually very different to reading it but has been a lovely experience.

If you are struggling with your eyesight or want to try a different way of revising without actually reading the book again buy an audio copy and then sit back and relax.

My husband saw a film of the stage play recently and asked me to purchase a copy of the book so that he could read it again, so moved was he by the script. Unknowingly, the script of the play followed the dialogue in the book pretty much word for word being written as a play/novel originally, so he was able to relive the earlier experience and he has given it 5 stars. A very moving read. Excellent
