I was tempted not to review this book as I think it is just not my type of story however I normally try to finish a novel, but I got about 150 pages in and I just was not wanting to pick it up in the evening. The story was predictable and just a little peculiar even for a vampire story.

I think it is one of those novels that when released thirty years ago would seem like a fresh and new idea but now seems a little tired and cliched.

The writing is OK but does not pull you into the story like say Robert McCammon, McCammon is a good example I was expecting this book to be similar to "Speaks the Nightbird" with vampires but GRR Martin does not have the talents of a writer such as McCammon during his later period.

Clearly this is a liked book but it is not for me, I think the limit of my taste for vampire related novels extends to Carrion Comfort, They Live, Salem's Lot and Dracula... Everything after that just seems like a rehash of better stories.
