The amazing thing about this book is the translation. It reads like a brilliant collection of English poems. As for Syzmborska, she has a beautifully elegant, humane, witty and intelligent voice. She is, I feel, also very accessible and immediate. Even when discussing the most serious and daunting topics her tone is gently ironic and amused, but always tolerant. Some of her poems are very unsettling, dizzying in their temporal and existential perspectives. She has a very unique and powerful way of conveying the experience of living in the flux of time.
