Civil War Adventures
9 December 2016
9/12/16 It's several years after Thomas Hill successfully broke codes that assisted king Charles ,however his success attracted enemies . Whilst at his Romsey bookshop Hill finds himself arrested and imprisoned, charged with spreading sedition having written pamphlets about Parliament. But with no trial Hill finds himself an indentured (bought) man , sold, he is transported to Barbados. It is no paradise, the heat humidity and back breaking work and foul treatment almost finish him off. But he always hopes he will find his way home and back to his sister and nieces. First he must survive the treatment of his owners ,and the settlers themselves, already taking sides in a war being fought thousands of miles away.
A well written period drama detailing the little known part the island of Barbados played in the English Civil War, with a further insight into the conditions workings of the sugar plantations. History, adventure with some good old revenge thrown in.
