Space in between the planets seems to be empty except for some planets and dust. "The Aurora" helps you to fill space with the presence of the earth magnetic field, the interplanetary magnetic field, solar wind and the interaction between them in a very understandable way. From myths and historical explanations of the most wonderfull light phenemenon in the skies, the book continous to describe the present day understanding of the aurora. The solar activity, which is the basis for aurora, is described, as well as earths atmosphere, which gives the aurora its different aspects (e.g. forms, colours). The not so pleasant sides of sun-earth interactions are not forgotten: the consequences of geomagnetic storms on satellites and radiocommunication can be very severe. Also other phenomena caused by sun-earth interactions are discussed such as noctilucent clouds. A very usefull guide for someone who wants to see the aurora!
