This is a really good book for those doing modeling in Excel and VBA. I already have most or all of the other books out there, but this one provides much more detail and advanced applications than those texts. In addition, the book covers a wide set of examples that you would otherwise have to try to buy separately (financial statements, options, real options, risk analysis, etc) and the VBA stuff is really useful and practical. The examples on the CD-ROM are excellent, consisting of high quality models. My only criticism is that there is so much material you cannot simply browse it in the same way that you can with some of the lower level texts-you need to read it in detail.

This is an excellent hands on book about building robust financial models, that can be used for decision making. It contains a wealth of useful excel samples and real modelling exercises. Practical , concise no-nonsense approach to modelling.

..you'll find that some of the examples will keep working ONLY IF YOU BUY the risk software from such and such after the trial period has elapsed. So either you PAY MORE or you LOSE some value in the book. You can also wonder about the morality of shipping a CD which will work only for a time...

Picked this book during my MBA. It was okay for covering the basics of financial modelling. I then ended up getting coached by a Wall Street Training Firm to get better understanding of LBO/ Financial modelling and felt that this book provided a good starting point.

I bought it couple of years ago, the problem with a book is that it covers too many topics without real depth. If the author wanted to write advanced book on modelling risk then he should develop applications probably using VBA then relying on @Risk add-in module.
Chapter on modelling p&l, BS abd cash flow provides model again which is too simple to be called intermediate to advance in relation to cover of the book.
