Wish we'd bought this book before we'd submitted the coursewok. Following some dire teaching we had to help my daughter work out what to do. Then bought this book to help her revise for the exam. Chapters one and three set out exactly the requirements for GO40 and GO42 courseworks as well as what you need to know for the exam GO41.
This is just another skimpy ICT text (supposedly for AS level) that does little more than comment on the syllabus, On the back of the book it states that the book directly matches the OCR specification. It appears that the author has checked out the specification and then written the book by writing a paragraph or so about each mention in the specification.
The theory presented is shallow at best, and there is very little for the student to work on because questions are non-existent. What you do have is some suggested assessment tasks. Within the text of these tasks is specific advice about what the examiner will be looking and what you need to do to get a certain grade. No doubt this was cribbed from the syllabus, so in a sense the book matches the specification.
Problem is, as a teaching aid this book is pretty useless. If it is possible to get a good grade using this book, it only makes the exam itself appear to be not worth the paper it is written on.
